How much work is involved to change a website's coding so it isn't too big at 800x600?

A designer created a page for me that when viewed at 800x600 requires horizontal scrolling to see the whole thing. I hardly ever have to do this for any websites I go to when I'm running 800x600. How much work is needed for him to make it so that the page fills the window WITHOUT horizontal scrolling, whether a person is using 800x600 or higher resolution? By the way, the page was created in table format. (Yeah, I know DIV is better, but please regard this aspect. I just wanted to mention.) Thank youHow much work is involved to change a website's coding so it isn't too big at 800x600?
Instead of using a fixed width, you can set the width of the tables at 100%, and it will automatically stretch to the width of the monitor, no matter what the resolution.

For example, check out Wikipedia at various widths...

To change the size is not too difficult. If it is due to a table, where the table is defined, the width in pixels or percentage can be specified. This may cause a need for other elements inside the table to be adjusted, but you almost never see web designers design a page for anything less than 800x600.

If your designer gives you a hard time, let them know that you need something more ';standardized';. BTW using tables for placing graphics, etc. is not as acceptable as it was some years ago.
