make sure that your browser settings are so that your browser will not auto-complete entries int he address bar. For instance, when I enter google.com, it will probably add a www., if not the entire thing (http://www.google.com), and the way you can stop this is (in most browsers), is by turning off auto-complete (some browsers call it differently). You may want to turn off automatic domain guesser, which will fill in items like .com, .org, .biz, .net, etc., and this may solve your problem too. Some browsers include these options to turn it off, including Mozilla, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, (Perhaps Internet explorer), and more. Check your settings.

Here's my personal take: I occasionally ask a question if I need information or to find out if anyone has a common experience. I answer questions to pass the time. If a question seems genuine and warrants a serious answer I try to give one; if it's a frivolous or stupid question I answer in kind. Sometimes we all need help and maybe don't know where to turn and answers can be a good thing. That only answers some of your questions but I hope it helps.

Where I am working as an SEO the company has rebranded and launched a new website on 16th October.
I have created deep links (301 redirects) from the old site to the new, done all the usual webmaster verification etc and told google that we have changed website address.
This morning I googled our two main keywords ';personalised cards'; and in Chrome and IE7 we are number one on page one, and in Firefox number 4. Needless to say the Director is over the moon and I am chuffed to bits as well.
The old site remind4u com has not had a 301 implemented from the home page, you have to click any of the tabs or the central panel to be 301 redirected to funkypigeon com home page. ok - firstly you should be seeing any differences between the serps regardless of what browser you use as you - the only reason I can see why this is happning is because the search engines are very clever and try to show results as a personal touch to the user - so if you have been clicking on your own listings in google then they will remember this and show your website higher as they believe this site is more applicable to the your sepcific needs - what I would advise is to clear your browsing history and flash cookies in all broswers individually - when you do another search you should see the same results.

ECommerce and API help needed!?
I am working for a company that has a website. Currently when an order is placed it goes to an encrypted website where we retrieve the order including ship to, products, and all payment info including credit card#. Then the order is entered into a unix database where the card is charged and the order is printed to be filled.
MY QUESTION: We are changing website hosts to a less ';customized'; site and all they know is how to use the payment gateway that is built into their software. As soon as I start to stray I hit a dead end. Will an API be the solution to get the orders processed as they do today without the ecommerce company authorizing or charging the credit card. Meaning all I need is a program that will collect the order and payment info into some encrypted file for the employees to access via some login.

Why does my bookmark location change automatically?

I have two websites running on windows 2008 servers using asp.net. These two websites need to remain physically separate from one another, but I would like to mirror some of the data from one website onto the other.
In a fashion similar to that of putting an image on one website with the image source being http://otherwebsite.com so that whenever the other website changes that image it also changes on my website, but at the same time the websites are not physically linked.
Now to my problem:

I currently have a blog running on the blogger.com system, and have a question about the URL. Currently, my URL is something obscure, but it's my username for most things. MY site is http://alakalaka99.blogspot.com . And I got to thinking, if people would want to return to my site, they would have no idea how to spell the URL. So I have decided to change it to something like the name of my blog (which I should have done in the first place). Now here is my question. I can't afford to keep fully supporting IE6, it ruins many things. The website is still readable, it just looks less appealing with the layout a bit distorted. Therefor I want to bring up a dialog box if the user is visiting on a browser that is IE6 or lower. Basically, how can I determine this using code?

One of those headers will be their user-agent. In PHP for example, it's in $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']. Then parsing proceeds same as with JavaScript (google can help here).

Or you could screen shot the page and then use photoshop or even paint to cover up the text that you dont want.

If the header is an image, then you need to use an external CSS file and link to it on all your pages. That way, when you change the image, you edit just the CSS and the change appears on all pages.
If it is text or text and image, then you should use Server Side Includes (SSI). Then you just edit the one include file and all changes appear on every page that has the include code.

That's because your teacher didn't set up her links correctly for her web page. Hope the teacher isn't teaching anything about web design.
You can go into your browser (Safari) and find the tab where you can change Fonts/Colors. May have a button to select Colors. Once window is opened, you should be able to click the box to override web site's choices. Usually isn't a good idea, but if you remember to change it back for other sites, you'll be ok.
Might also try clearing your browser's cache are doing a thorough Refresh. Alternative is to make your own CSS stylesheet with the link colors you want Safari to use on every page.

Does changing a website structure also effect how the search engines (ie.. google) display their resaults?

definitely will have some effect and you will see you are out of the index for some time. but no need to worry cause it only takes a few weeks. that happen to me recently. when I check on the google webmaster central all my internal link is gone. my ranking also gone. I think it is around two weeks. but until now I still can't figure out why I lose my ranking on ASK. I have 2 or 3 top three ranking. so I lost some traffic from them. but I won't worry about it. I am confident with experience I will get the knowledge why it happen.
I believe google put some time to reindex new redesigned site when it found some major structure changes although the content is still the same. anyhow the page rank is still there. so don't worry about. if you think new design or layout could help in term of seo and usability make it quickly as possible as you can when you have realise it. hope that helps a bit.

Hey, I recently asked this question but I made some changes since then. I'm 14 years old and have never taken a class of web design, what do you think? Is the content good? Is the design good? I'm trying to make a website that basically tells people that money isn't hard to come by, and there is quality in free stuff.

It's very text heavy. The text is in big clumps and hard to read on screen. If you break the text up, people might be more inclined to read it properly..
Otherwise you could put less text on the front page, as an 'intro' and then link to more info, where you have all of that text. But it is good to keep paragraph short online because it is so much harder for the eye to read things on a screen.
Also your logo is hard to read too. The font makes it a little difficult... the site is technically good but it is a bit overwhelming... you need to look professional and stuff.
Especially if you want people to come on board. This is your front door and you have to get it right :)

For IIS, you're go to the web services manager, and find your site, then look at it's properties to see where it was stored. I have a website with a set of rollover tabs on the top for different parts of the website. I have about 50 total pages on the website that all display these tabs. I now need to add a new tab to that list and have the change show up on all the pages. Is there any way to do this just once and have the rest of them adopt the change?
