I am working for a company that has a website. Currently when an order is placed it goes to an encrypted website where we retrieve the order including ship to, products, and all payment info including credit card#. Then the order is entered into a unix database where the card is charged and the order is printed to be filled.
MY QUESTION: We are changing website hosts to a less ';customized'; site and all they know is how to use the payment gateway that is built into their software. As soon as I start to stray I hit a dead end. Will an API be the solution to get the orders processed as they do today without the ecommerce company authorizing or charging the credit card. Meaning all I need is a program that will collect the order and payment info into some encrypted file for the employees to access via some login.

Is your company going to process the credit cards themselves? Or will an online gateway (like paypal) do that?
