Business Website changes?

We used to update our business website via a graphic company but now have decided to hire someone in-house to make all adjustments. How do we gain access to the domain? The company we used to use told us it is not possible to make changes UNLESS it is through themBusiness Website changes?
If u have FTP details to connect, u can update the codes easily.Business Website changes?
you could have a problem here if your design company is hosting your website on there servers they don't have to give you access..

hopefully the domain name is controlled by you and not your graphic company if you have control of the domain name you could transfer it to another hosting company like you would have to start over from scratch with your website..

this is why it is really important for companies to register their own domain name and pointed to other servers keeping control yourself.

if you've hired someone in-house they should already know most of this type of information
If they do not allow you to have FTP access, it is possible that the graphics company is using a proprietary content management system to make changes to your pages. In this case, you may have to pay to buy their content management system, or make another arrangement with them so you can make changes in the future.

If the dispute is indeed about the domain, then your graphics company is holding you hostage, and this may be illegal.

First, go through the contract you signed with them in detail. See where it says who owns the domain.

Second, immediately do a WHOIS search on your domain name to identify the owner (see link below).

If you are listed as the Registrant, you own the domain. If not, you don't.

If you are listed as either the Technical Contact or the Administrative Contact, you have some control over the domain rights, and this will work in your favor.

Contact the registrar of the domain and file a dispute regarding ownership. You will have to provide notarized documentation to prove that you are the rightful owner, and you may have to do other things which they will specify.

If you are the Technical or Admin contact, TELL THEM!

The only way to establish control over your domain name is to deal with the present registrar of your domain directly.

All registrars must follow the the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (often referred to as the ';UDRP';). See the second link, below. The next two paragraphs are a quote from that site:

';Under the policy, most types of trademark-based domain-name disputes must be resolved by agreement, court action, or arbitration before a registrar will cancel, suspend, or transfer a domain name. Disputes alleged to arise from abusive registrations of domain names (for example, cybersquatting) may be addressed by expedited administrative proceedings that the holder of trademark rights initiates by filing a complaint with an approved dispute-resolution service provider.

';To invoke the policy, a trademark owner should either (a) file a complaint in a court of proper jurisdiction against the domain-name holder (or where appropriate an in-rem action concerning the domain name) or (b) in cases of abusive registration submit a complaint to an approved dispute-resolution service provider.

Good luck!
